Should I Represent Myself

Taxpayers have the right to represent themselves. Should they?

No!

When taxpayers or businesses represent themselves, they may be unfamiliar with the tax law and regulations which apply when dealing with the Internal Revenue Service and/or Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Additionally, because taxpayers and businesses may be unfamiliar their rights, they may disclose information which could be used against them by either the Internal Revenue Service and/or Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Taxpayers and businesses can become emotionally involved when attempting to resolve their tax liabilities.

Taxpayers and businesses are allowed to designate a representative to represent them regarding the resolution of their tax issues or liabilities. By having a representative appear on your behalf, an experienced advocate can make sure only the relevant information is disclosed to the taxing authorities..

You have the right to designate a representative to appear before the taxing authorities.
